Asphalt shingle roofing in San Diego.
Shingle roofs are the volume option in San Diego — cheaper than tile, faster to install, and the right choice for many tract homes built after 1985. The quality difference between shingle brands is real but smaller than contractor install quality. We're GAF and Owens Corning certified, which unlocks upgraded warranty tiers.

What do homeowners ask about Shingle Roofing?
What shingle brand do you recommend?
GAF Timberline HDZ and Owens Corning Duration are the workhorses — both architectural, both 30-year material warranty, both available in regional color palettes that suit SD homes. For coastal salt exposure, we prefer GAF's StainGuard Plus (algae-resistant). For high-wind areas (mountain communities, Santa Ana-prone zones), the Class H 130mph-rated versions.
Should I pay extra for impact-resistant (Class 4) shingles?
Depends on your insurance. Some California carriers offer 5–15% premium discounts for Class 4 shingles. Math: if the shingle upcharge is $800 and the discount is $150/year, payback is 5 years on a 25-year roof. Usually worth it; we run the numbers during the estimate.
How many layers of shingles can I have?
California code allows up to 2 layers total. If you already have 1 layer and it is structurally sound, a layover saves $2,500–$4,500 vs. full tear-off. We rarely recommend it though — tear-off lets us inspect the deck, fix rot, and improve ventilation. Layovers hide problems.
What is the GAF Golden Pledge warranty?
A 50-year non-prorated manufacturer warranty (on the shingle) + 25-year workmanship warranty (on the install) + 5-year tear-off coverage. Only GAF Master Elite contractors (top 3% nationally) can offer it. We're certified — it's the strongest residential warranty in the industry.
How long does a shingle roof last in San Diego?
Architectural shingles in coastal SD: 22–28 years realistic. Inland/East County with higher UV and heat: 18–25 years. Installation quality, ventilation, and underlayment affect this more than the shingle brand.

Homeowners who hired us for this
Our 1990s Spanish tile roof was leaking in three spots. Instead of a full tear-off, Top Pro did a lift-and-relay with new underlayment and salvaged 90% of the original tiles. Crew was meticulous. Passed inspection on the first visit.
Got four quotes for a full tear-off and reroof. Top Pro was the only company that actually pulled up into the attic to check for rot before quoting. Found damage the others missed. Fair price. Crew was on time every day.
Live three blocks from the ocean. Salt killed our old shingle roof in 12 years. Top Pro installed stone-coated steel with stainless fasteners. Clean lines, clean job site, and they coordinated the HOA design review paperwork.
